Thanks to my mentor for all she does.

Testament to Truth

Through sheer amiss of curtain break
Upon December's bleak awake
Preceding Reaper's come to take
I spied her in her winter year
Her final winter she'd tread here
In last moment of life's partake

There upon tuft of ruby weave
She had taken her evening leave
Robed in golden gown of grieve
Seated at her secretary
In her wick-lit sanctuary
'Twas here she practiced her deceive

Flickers fluttered upon the wall
To come telling her tales of tall
But she not grant her grace its fall
No wail heard in sorrowed gloom
Alone there in her shadowy tomb
She'd not stall Reaper's mournful call

While others would have chose as fill
Blackest ink to wet their quill
She chose in her exacting still
An instrument of her delight
Composed of grayest, gray graphite
For this writing of her last will

As she wrote, she shed not one tear
Nor wrote she now her final fear
So, was then it became quite clear
In her recount with slow recant
With more than the slightest slant
'Twas ne’er one, no one she held dear

For it had been her situation
Not by engraved invitation
To find honor's convocation
Praying for light's recognition
Never passing to fruition
She now faced death by starvation

As her Reaper stepped into light
I saw her shutter in cold of night
Her spirit shook with fatal fright
'Twas then in moment of realize
Tears pooling within her eyes
She lay aside her gray graphite

For they'd not erase her mind
No, not a penny they would find
Nor dime for her family's kind
Not a farthing, nor single note
She firmly knew of what she wrote
Her final words were meant to bind

With care, she took up pen in hand
For on this parchment truths would land
With blackest ink, soul's anger fanned
For in this moment, she now found sight
In words penned with her will of might
Death could now lead her by the hand

Till dawn does break in quaking wake
and to the courtyard stealthing goes.
An apparition comes to once partake
of that which in the darkness glows.

For in this dark,  this evil black
of things that bump and fill the night
As one might feel the shivering back
before the waning moon takes flight.

Be careful...you might bring out the
truly dark side of me...

Excellent POEtic penning dear lady....
May the pendulum never touch thy flesh...

Seems to me, as I know your penchant for free verse, that this was more like a birthing, which is, my dear, as it should be.  This is fine, very fine.  Seems to me you pleased Magnus, too.

THAT'S a very good thing!

Well done Patricia.
This piece took significant concentration, and the detail was quite effective.
Bravo.

I had a dream last night

Patricia, there is such depth to your writing. You have been growing in leaps and bounds as a writer and I appreciate your descriptive and emotive poetry on several levels ~ the stories, emotions, images, your poetic styles... "P" stands for Patricia the Poetess!
