  Browning Green

The lush, green, darkness of the forest
Is turning to the gold/red hues
It’s easier to see across the holler
To those unseen summer views.

At the bottom, the winding road
Comes slowly to be seen
I make out the rocky surface
One each side of browning green.

The morns are cool, some chilly
And the sun’s warm takes longer
Too soon to set, the short day
Makes the lonely, stronger.

The night, it has gone silent
No cricket’s chirp to hear
Just the wind’s leave’s rustle
Of, another passing year.

Old Man Winter’s round the bend
With his chill down to the bone
And wishing for Spring already
Where the cold winds had blown.
