There's a shadow that follows me
Tries to grab hold and won't set me free
Lurks there waiting for the chance
To watch my breath take it's last dance
I watch it as I move along
Knowing soon I will have to be strong
Like a darkness that can't be cut with a knife
To let in even a pinhole of light
As I close my eyes to sleep
The shadow starts to slowly creep
It covers me like a heavy weight
Hoping forever I will stay in this state
My heart feels like it's being pinched in two
Screaming with pain, what do I do
Like having my heart on a board
And someone pushing, until it bursts forevermore
This shadow has come to take my soul
And make me lose complete control
But just when it thinks it's won the fight
I bolt right up and open my eyes
Breathing, like there's no oxygen for me
My heart beating from that awful dream
I laugh at the shadow once more
For like a brave warrior, I have won another score

Whew! Those are not what I'd call pleasant nights! You recreated them quite vividly--almost too vividly! I've decided to stay up a bit later tonight--with the lights on!

Creepy.  I wonder what lurks behind the shadow...?

All I can say is whoa. It is an intense poem. Like I was waiting for the next thing to happen.
