Slow Dancing

I tried to forget yesterday
when pieces of love
surrounded me in warmth,
a halo of want and need.
The pain of remembering
bleeds me thin
dreams me long into morning,
its origin soon to be
thirty three years ago.

It was the perfect kiss,
a fairy tale day, rose in hand,
you by my side
and a fire within.

Rejection's been hard to take
the hushed whisperings
everywhere I go, the fallen
teardrops silent as I  dance alone
remembering.

I embrace my mind,
floating the what ifs
pushing back the pain,
wanting to side step the now
knowing time has run out.

The insanity of it all,
the undefined, the shutting down
grips me in hold
as I lean into words of weakness,
punish myself with their flogging
wondering if anyone
will ever see the real me again,
see me rise from the shadows
and look time in the face,
borrow its passion
making it mine.

I thought the power of love
could push me forward,
wake up my senses,
link me to new.
But confusion sways the balance,
divides each syllable of pleasure
needing to plea,
wanting  the assuredness
that can never be.

Don't worry about me.
I could never escape myself.
I wear my translucent colors for you
wondering if you have the tools to see,
to understand, to close the distance
chancing me to a slow dance, once again.

M

yes Maureen . . .

I lean into words of weakness,
punish myself with their flogging
wondering if anyone
will ever see the real me again,

we must stop this insanity . . .
and I often wonder too if even I will see the real me again
