Here, Now, Forever

Feeling strangely divine…
The cravings will recede in time…
Until soon,
not a thought will pass,
of this small flaming stick that is killing me fast.

Feeling lightheaded, the trembles begin…
The cravings grow stronger,
They’ll probably win.
Again, my friend,
The cravings may win,
Quitting cold turkey is the hardest of things.

Yet, my friend, I’m feeling divine…
I think there’s a chance I’m for real this time!
I haven’t felt this good in years…
Why do I damage this body so dear?
With reckless abandon, my death draws so near…

The embers of death now advance towards my fingers,
That pungent old stench of it silently lingers..
I am the Newport.
My life burns so short.

(Hopefully, I will know better this time..)

Don’t you dare tell me it’s easy,
To quit smoking --cold turkey.
I haven’t once smoked a cigarette, you see.
All of those little darn buggers smoked me.

Hi, there, ES! Yep, them little ciggy puffs were smokin' you! When I quit, many, many moons ago, I had to keep a pack in the kitchen cupboard just so I wouldn't panic! Well, when I finally did sneak one, it tasted like hades!

When I was going through the withdrawal stages, I "smoked" celery sticks, candy canes--even my pen! But years have passed now and I have never gone back--and never will! Hang in there! You can do it!

You did a great job of conveying the pains of kicking the habit! Brought back a lot of painful memories!

Keep it up!
Warm hugs,
EA

I've kicked a lot of things...most of them kicked me back.

Good luck!

Excellent. Quitting any bad habit is hard...even when we know just how damaging it is to ourselves and others. Hang in there. I did it over a year and a half ago and am so glad that I did. Chris
