I guess it would be different-
If I had done you wrong.
Betrayed our vows of marriage,
Fell to some siren's song.

What brought about disaster,
A perfect marriage wrecked,
Can be summed up in just one word-
The little word..."neglect".

I didn't treat you cruelly,
I didn't call you names.
Or make hard accusations,
Or try to dump the blame.

The things which hurt you deeply,
And finally broke your heart.
Were little signs of negligence-
Which tore our world apart.

I'd leave in such a hurry,
To try to get to work.
That I'd forget to kiss you-
I really was a jerk.

You'd slave at making supper-
I'd eat on my way home...
And I would stay up working,
You'd go to bed alone.

When we moved to the city-
And left the farm behind.
Our times of talking ended,
I had too much on my mind.

You talked to me about it,
I guess I never heard...
Until you really shook me,
When you said the fatal words.

You said, "I am a widow-
To a mistress...your career!
I'd hate to keep you from her-
I'm leaving! Never fear!

I used to think you loved me,
But I guess I was wrong.
So, go on, make your money,
It's time I moved along."

Ouch. Truth for many. Love your cowboy wisdom oh wise one. Nicely done again.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

whoa! Great Job! Its easy to get caught up in things and leave the ones you love behind, but the important thing is too learn from our mistakes, pick ourselves up and try to live again!

It sounds like you were doing the best you could, and your aim was to make a good life, for both of you.  We all have a tendency to get entrenched in what we think is right.
I bet she still loves you; people don't come together for no reason, but she had her own path to follow, and she is true to her vision, just as you have been to yours.  Hopefully you will feel good about your intentions and appreciate yourself for that.  Your words have been helpful to me. I'm saving this one.  Thanks, Gunslinger.
