The Banyan tree breathes
absorbing the sky
and dropping it onto the forest floor
making holes of light

Slowly roots descend from high branches
they open the earth
gratitude feels good

The sky's or the tree's?

Under the canopy with me
you'll slow down time
in dappled nest of sky's intent
I'll know those roots most tender
of you

The sky's or the tree's?

Gratitude feels good
to me

I enjoyed this, the picture, the poem and the combination both. Flows well.

This poem is a joy to read, Martie.

You have such gifts, and share them with such grace and amenity....it's a pleasure to accompany you, see through your eyes as these simple things become conduits of wonder and love.

my lord that tree is awesome...
I love trees and I love this poem...
such unique personification.
I dont believe we have trees like that around here..what an impressive quiet giant he is.
Went to visit my dad last weekend near the Ozarks and went to a 300 year old cemetary..
there were Redwood Cedars there that were so old their bark was twisted like braided hair...and White Elms with branches that spanned 20 and 30 feet, trunks wider than 3 men could reach around...
Trees Rule!! So does your poetry

All I can feel is this distance between you and me.
I can say I love you but I can't make you believe me
because touching is believing.

I like the way you use the tree as a bridge between the earth and sky -- I've always shared that thought process.

Very nice photo too..!

Great picture and poem!

I have always wondered how big Banyon trees could get.

Trees are so full of life.  So much more aware of us than we are of them.

Wouldn't it be neat
to think of rooting one's self
to the sky...?

I thought I had read this quite a while ago.
Is this something you've re-posted, or am I doing that "been there before" thing?

No matter. It's very good Martie.

Ed -- nope, she found that feral muse of hers and wrote a new one, just like Ratleader predicted over in To Begin On White ( /pip/Forum80/HTML/001218.html )....and in half the time I thought it might take....

I calls 'em....!

As soon as I saw this, I thought about the prediction... and I'm glad your muse can't stay quiet long. *S* This is beautiful, Martie...

It's easy to see why the Buddha liked it too.  Very meditative, peaceful write.
