Have you ever found yourself on a freeway overpass, looking into the headlights of oncoming traffic and dreamins of the bliss to behold with one, simple, leap?

Actually, your question scares me a little, although I have experienced something similar. Sometimes, you can be so overwhelmed with life that you can imagine just "Jumping" with no intention of actually doing it. The "bliss" might be just the thought of getting away from everything. The scarey part of answering this question is .... I hope you're not serious! Sometimes I've been driving and thought, "I think I'll just keep driving. I think I'll just drive all the way out to California and not tell anybody and just keep going and not look back". The feeling of momentary freedom and elation is wonderful.... just for a second... then I realize that I can't really do that and that it was just a fantasy. I imagine this is the same kind of thing you are talking about. Am I right?

If you are serious, I would beg you to go get some help. Life is a precious gift from God. He wants you here for a reason.

My prayer for your peaceful mind.

Nope. Never! I have, however, been on that overpass and dreamed about the sheer joy of being able to fly over those oncoming cars and trucks.

It's always struck me as curious. Psychologists claim that the only innate fear we are born with is the fear of falling. Yet, it seems that four out of five people, at some time, dream very vividly of being able to fly. I suspect that says something really important about humanity. But I'll be darned if I know what...

Flying would be bliss. Leaping, I think, would not be, not for the one leaping and certainly not for those left behind.

Flying, yes indeed.

Those who analyze dreams say that flying represents our desire to let go, to release ourselves from that which keeps us grounded. My experience has been that when i dream of flying (which is the ultimate joy for me in my dreams) that i cannot go for but a few hundred yards at a stretch before i come back to the earth. Kinda tells me of my inablilty to let myself go, to release control.... that is my deepest sadness.

Pandora my sweet, your fear is unfounded. I merely ask the question "Have you ever..."

BTW, if you find yourself actually driving to California, stop by and look me up! For the sake of the sanity of all here I will not address the "life is a gift from God" comment, that could be a whole discussion thread of its very own....

May the gods of the earth touch your being and bless you with the gifts of life. Blessed be.

Mirrors on the ceiling,
pink champagne on ice,
and she says, "We are
all just prisoners here,
of our own device."
And in the master's chambers,
they gather for the feast.
The stab it with their steely knives,
but they just can't kill the beast.

Last thing I remember,
I was runnin' for the door,
had to find a passage back
to the place I was before.
"Relax," said the nightman,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check out anytime you like,
but you can never leave."

Umm, that was off the top of my head, but it should be right. Damn shame I can't remember the whole thing.

I thought this might be interesting to talk about because poets seem particularly prone to this type of thought. It reminded me also of a recent debate I had with Roxane in Critical Analysis.

My answer to the question is yes.

My own interest here is intellectual and probably deeply unsatisfying for many people.
However, if anybody wants to discuss this in depth . . .
