Phases

Daddy just left us
Our bellies are so full now
Napping comes easy

~*~

Welcome
To our moments
Of “ugly duckling” phase

Our beaks
Are bigger than
Our bellies

We’re certainly not much
To look at.

Our parents
Think we are more
Than precious.

Listen.  Do you hear them?
They are standing guard, as
There’s this lady
That keeps peeking out
Her window, watching us.
She thinks we’re going to fly away
Or something
If she blinks.

Silly woman.

We have a few more weeks
Of growth and learning
From mama and papa
Before we do anything silly

Like fly.

What’s so big about flying away,
Anyway?

Besides, we’ve heard the stories.
Sigh.

The wind brought to us
Tales of adventure,
Of worms to be found,
Sunlight to bathe in,
And water to splash.

Then the wind grew a little colder
And we learned of places south,
And heard of dangers ever-present,
Like cats,
Dogs, and bigger birds
Who could make a meal of us.

The three of us are pretty sure
We’re not going anywhere
For a while.

That lady in the window
Can stop worrying now.

Mama and Papa are doing just fine.
Listen.  They’re singing.
Yawnnn.  Night night.

Oh my!  The words are so beautiful and the picture makes it all real.
Aren't they the cutest/ugliest little things you have ever seen?
What a blessing!  What a happy Mother's Day for PiP's Ms. Robin!
You have a wonderful Mom's Day too dear lady.
Thanks so much for the updates.

Oh Karilea, how sweeeeeeeeeet! I melt and as much as I love cats, in this moment I pray none of them may get near there!
Thank you for this moment of beauty you share so lovingly.
Love, Margherita

How similar to the first steps
of a newborn...

Nice one KJ,  your pen compliments your
photography very well.

Karilea's Babies

Who da mama?  I think it Karilea.
She watches her birdies so carefully.
She says she fears that she one day will miss a stage.
I wonder if she could, she would
build a little cage.
Not one that could hold them forever, for you see.
She knows just as her spirit, those birdies must remain free.

Sorry, just a little something.  I can see you peeking at those birdies all day!  Very cute!
