The tiny corner
that once contained laughter
is no longer... the fear was stronger
obliteration of gaity
   the way of me
putting away of a dime store clown
   stowing it down
into the deep
where sorrow touches me...

Covered in shadow of everyday
the smile, the fun, the simple
of play, is overcome with dark
the fast beat of heart
as news we await in timelessness...

It's never ending...

This anxious fretting
   somewhat more than I can stand
for I can't hold the demon in hand
    black beast that resides
way down deep inside
  where it may consume your life,
while I, your wife, shake and tremble
    as the mind remembers
another day, you, cast gray
death on the bed, too much in my head
and the fear too big to face.

Now space, even more important
has shrunk...grown small
please, I'm undone by it all...

You paint fear well, though I can't tell if the husband is literally dying or the relationship is.....

Or, even if this is your life experience.

Anne, I'm feeling the same as Pat....I don't know if this is for real or not. So I don't really know how to comment.
I do know, though, that the poem is very powerful with lots of feeling and emotion in it.........

Thank you all for your comments. My husband went for a physical and they found a spot on his chest xray. He's a long time smoker, he refuses to quit and this literally scares the hell out of me. I can only sit back and wait until they do a CT scan to find out exactly what it is. This is the second time my husband has been sick, the last when he injured himself and had to go through several surgeries and he always looked worse and closer to death every time they put him on that table. For those praying, thanks so much.
