On the night before Christmas hanging brightly aglow
Lit the moon like a furnace shining on yellow snow
There 'Twas I in my glory standing in but a hat
And my wife in her flannels, asking if she looked fat

Our hound dog Samantha, with pups in a pride
Kept taking the trimmings, leaving puddles beside
Called the Vet in a panic but all to no avail
For his only suggestion, tie a knot in her tail

Oh we hated to do it, yes we couldn't indeed
Poor Samantha got through it, with sad eyes in deep plead
And the tree seemed quite crooked, but the star it still shined
Though we put water to it, ever dreary branch whined

So the Mrs. and I snuggled up by the fire
And she promised me cookies if I did, the ol' liar
And we penned the best Christmas we could ever think up
By the fire...The Mrs., hungry me, and nine pup

Those pups, they kept whining' all the hours of the night
And Me and the Mrs. well....we couldn't wait till light
I wanted to have Santa come down the chimney in burn
And see that ol' bugger like ashes to the worm's turn

I heard on the roof a clatter that sounded like a freight train.
I yelled up, hoping it would scatter, but alas it did remain.
Old Betsy by the window sill, I ran to get as fast as I could
Those buggers are gonna take some lead, OH yes, really good

I got the shells from the dresser, shucking them in as I ran
Forgetting the hat on Old Glory, or the breeze on my can
That noise on the roof top, I will make it go fly away
And those pups better stop whining, Oh sheesh, it's almost day.

The window I threw open to check up high on the roof.
Old Glory was now hidin,' and this was not a spoof.
I took aim on the leader, the one with the shiny red nose.
But I couldn't pull the trigger, this destiny I gladly chose.

As they flew through night air, oh but this to express
Better cover them hatches, batten down and depress
some salve on them scratches, in the Mrs. nightdress.
For my pride’s outta hidin, no longer in regress.

Now Santa is sleighin' into the clear of chilly night,
And ya gotta move over, or them pups they may bite.
For they now are sleepin', next to Sammie with care,
named after tiny reindeer, but with big feet and long hair.

This silly smile is great medicine...
Certainly the spirit of laughter.
Thanks for opportunity to see the light side.

Magnus darling boy, This Diamond This is simply  wonderful, one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The writing is perfect and you two have written pure gold, the humour and wit are incredible. Beautiful work really beautiful, I love it utterly utterly
