Our Loss, His Gain

A week has passed, it seemed to crawl,
I am not dreaming after all.
A beautiful young man is dead.

So vibrant, so alive was he,
It seems it simply cannot be.
He lies within his frozen bed.

A speeding, lethal avalanche,
He was the leader, had no chance.
The snow enveloped like a shroud.

We know he's in Your warm embrace,
Though lost to us without a trace.
Forgive us if we cry aloud.

As we now question and implore,
We pray someday we'll see him soar
On some celestial fleecy cloud.

He had won accolades and fame.
Every snowboarder knew his name.
Forgive us if we were too proud.

Yes Lord, forgive us, we were proud.

By Joyce 01/25/03

For Craig Kelly, my step-grandson.

Joyce:  We never know why these tragedies happen, just that we have to deal with them the best we can.  Your poem is very moving!

My heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family my friend. Your poem here is very simple and to the point. Although your  expressed events here are most tragic, if I understand correctly from what you have written, he has been put to rest in the very place that best portrays his passion for living.... In other words, in the minds of those who remain yet alive, he will always be doing what he enjoyed best in life. Again, very good poetry and as I think the title of your poem implies... I am very sorry for your loss, but I am also very happy for His gain. GOD bless.

Thank you Bob.  The last discussion I had with his daddy(last Sunday) they were talking of leaving him right where he is.  I don't know whether they meant his body as it is or if they would spread his ashes.  It is so painful to discuss but I will know later.  Love, Joyce

Joyce, With all my heart, I send you and your family my deepest sorrow. I have no idea why a person is taken to heaven to be with our Father, I only know, 'God's ways are not our ways.' One day we will all be united and our questions will be answered.

Hugs to you dear lady, Marti

Yes, bless his heart.  He was from our town, Mount Vernon, Washington and he adopted your country because of your beautiful mountains and his love for snowboarding.  He was getting his certification to be a guide.  Thank you for answering.  Love, Joyce
