in captivity

I think I know
how caged birds feel
imprisoned-
like hidden thoughts
held deep within

while the sun glows
ever so bright
in wide open sky
and the wind stirs
in soft whispers
while breezing through
wide expanse of
green grassy lands

I think I know
how caged birds feel
crestfallen-
as if locked out
of life’s delight

while wild streams flow
with flawless ease
rustling young reeds
suggestively
shadow dancing
when light falls on
crystal droplets
that yearn shimmers

I think I know
why caged birds pound
their tender wings
on cold steel bars
till blood stains red

I know enough
to realise
that they must fly
back to their nests
and let time heal
their inner pains
that still cause hurt
sketched in forms of
ancient scars

I think you have grown so much as a poet from the time that I first started reading you that I can not imagine you as a caged bird..for surely your spirit is free in the words you share... some sad, some not... but all with a heart..

I want to keep this, but must let it fly freely, so I've cloned a copy for my library.

I think this is the best
rendition I have ever read
of being caged,
and not being allowed to fly
or sing
or write.

Beautiful, Sudhir.  Your poetry has grown so much in the last few years.  It's an honor to post beside such as yourself.

Hey Sudhir -

I like this. "I think I know / how caged birds feel" is very catchy and worked well in repetitition.
