"NIGHT FRIGHTS"
by Bill Charles
~~~~
I knew it was Halloween, but figured what the heck,
go through the park to get home, wasn't a long trek...
So I went right through the creaky main gate,
soon as I did I had the impression it was too late...
Well I didn't know it, that is, what I was getting into,
until scary things started to happen, holy phew…
I heard this noise, sounded like something very angry,
what was it I wondered, I certainly wasn't going to argue...
A bolt of lighting, and some scary cackling laughter,
there was a ghoul person looking like an aggressor…
I didn't want to agitate him, so backed away did I,
didn't do any good though, he caught me with his eye...
So I turned tail and ran, later they said I was pure white,
I was really scared, had a whole lot of trembling fright...
And as I was running, fast as I could down that curvy path,
out jumped a skeleton, with its entire terrible wrath...
A ghoul, a skeleton, wow I thought, what's next,
I shouldn't have asked, because next was the best...
Evil red eyes were looking through the dark at me,
it was coming from over there, behind another tree…
It gurgled and said "A'rrrrrgggg", and other things,
I said, "Wow Bill, this is not good, just too many beings"…
My teeth were chattering, like I was chewing on a steak,
hoping that that gurgling thing only had a bellyache...
Never found out what it might be, because I left in posthaste,
before that whatever thing it was wanted me to taste…
I took off from that park, yelling “yahoooooo, come on feet,
help me get out of here, just once make me an athlete"…
So I learned one lesson, if you must walk through the park,
don't go there when it's Halloween, midnight, and dark...
Because all of those creatures, they have pretty big appetites,
and there is one thing for sure, they will certainly give you
night frights…
Bill...Enjoyed your story very much.
When I was young and had to walk down a dark street at night, I always use to keep looking behind me, thinking some terrible creature was right behind me waiting for the chance to jump out and grab me.
Scared the daylights out of me every time...Paul
This is so different from your usual romantic poetry, Bill...
But you did an excellent job scaring me half to death...
BTW... did you get a lot of candy for trick or treating?
Hah!
Those ghouls and goblins
and skeletal thingies
cannot scare me
out of my jammies!
Oops!
I left my jammies
in Alaska
when I moved!
Now I am in
big trouble!
Bill, you didn't even have to have all that music, scary graphics, and  black pages that those e-mail greeting sites have for Halloween poems.  Your words in this poem got me SCARED  SILLY.....that is , what time I wasn't giggling at the expressions you used to get your point across. This was really good, Bill. I felt like I was in a  spooky graveyard instead of a park.
Thanks.
Love To All,
Ethel
Yikes, I wouldn't go through the park no matter what the night!
Very spooky and scary ... BOO!
Remind me never to go for a stroll in the park with you. I only meet friendly ghosts and witches, and their all so little.
Not to worry!
hehe loved this
(giggles in delight) And just when I thought I had seen everything, there, in back of me, a grinding noise, like a lawn-mower...creeping to my neck. it could only mean one thing...if...YES, IT'S THE HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS AND THE SLACK-JAWED TOMATO MASSACRE...or wait, it's just Rascally Raccoon! LOL! This is sooooooo delightful, sweet friend, I LOVE IT, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Bill, thank you for sharing!
May love and light always shine upon you!
Love,
Love and warm stuff
As always
Mushy
Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the earthquake wind and fire
