I got the Alabama black shadow blues
For no matter what I do
The cloud of despair floods in
To claim something of nothing

The more I make the faster
Someone figures out how to take it
And the blues of living
Sinks its fangs in me

In a room of gloom
Which grows smaller with every bill
The computer sings its lonely tune
As the wall cries in such a melody

Yeah, I got the Alabama black shadow blues
That suffocates the minds will to smile
In all those moody blues stepping all over you
Leaving you feeling like a Enron 401 account

Yeah, I would be better of being broke
That way I would have some money
And Alabama Power would not
Be turning of the power to a dream

Or a Chrysler dealership that tunes up your truck
With new spark plugs
When the old ones were only a week old
Doing a diagnostic on it for big bucks
Not even doing the complete package

Yeah I never felt so low
As to deal with corporate American
And their creative accounting
Billing us into slavery

What am I to say anything?
But just a poet with the blues
Awaiting Uncle Sam to punish me more
Saying your postage is past due

In a retirement going so negative
That I get the social security blues
That will not even buy me city water
I will be taxed on negative gains

But the Alabama black shadow blues
Will find some words
To set me at peace with my small space
So I can get a restless sleep tonight
Of American fantasies free of leeches

For the government has not figured out a way
To tax my black shadow words yet
But the corporate politicians
Are thinking about big business
Of taxing the blues

Thought: If we got rid of every corporate politician and ended creative manipulation, corporate America would be naked. They would shrivel up to their birthday suits and have nothing to show!

My dark clouds are real and I wish I could use my 401 account to pay my bills, before they disappears in a dust storm that claims my body. I had $200,000 5 years ago it is now half that. In 5 years when I collect it I will not be able to pay an Alabama Power bill or an inflated Chrysler dealership’s creative diagnostic charge.

Take big business out of government. If they can not pay their bills now, why should we subsidize them with our money? Let them become broke like the rest of us.

My pennies in the love of this country will someday make a difference. Blessings in the blues that made this country cry in its glorious heritage.

This is a very intense poem with lots of very strong truths. I liked it, too. Thanks for sharing your "blues" with us.

I know them, too... even if mine are a different state. *S*

And while I'll join Toe in saying Roll Tide, I hope another Alabama team gets flattened by the superior Tigers from Bayou Country! LOL

Great work, DL!
