Crowd around
the fallen girl.
Eyes are peeled
and echoes
repeated.

Tape the sorrow,
print the madness.

Entertain
the
masses.

Most mediums of mass productions capture the brutality rather than the humane side. I think you've managed to catch the exact way they do it. This seems focused around a certain story. Which one is it?

I'm sorry I haven't emailed you...when I'm no longer buzzing off vals I will.

I was watching Oprah yesterday, I was too lazy to change the channel and I'm glad I didnt, I recieved some very useful knowledge.  They were talking about a new movie "Bowling for Columbine" and about how the US is so messed up because everyone here is SCARED.

Anyway, this brings me to the poem.  There was a fact somewhere in the show that said murder has gone down something like 20%, however, news coverage of murder has gone up 600%!

Anyway the point of the show was to say that the media is trying to scare us, and its working...thats what this poem reminded me of

Good Job

~Lisa

Ooohhh, great one! Unfortunately that's what it is now... entertaining the masses.

Death sells. As sick as that may be, it's true. So....what is it? Does the mass media control the viewer or vice versa?
Regardless, this poem points out something very profound and I liked that. Very well done.

I have a softspot for short poetry with long titles.  I had my fingers crossed hoping this would be a short one, then opened the browser and jumped for joy... everyone in the computer lab is staring at me...

Yeah, anyhow... I do agree with your description of media.  The thing is that the media does have to "entertain" or nobody will buy their papers, watch their television shows, and thus (more importantly)... not see the advertising that fills their coffers with gold.

Remember that the media isn't there to inform us... it's there to advertise to us.  For this reason, it focuses on entertaining us.

Yes ma'am.  A very nice poem indeed.

Jen~
Unfortunately, there is much truth in these lines.
It really is ashame that so many forget about
the 'person' in cases like this.
Very well said, my friend.
