More Smoking Themes
Thanks for the idea, paladin.

First

Discarded Camel
not much more than a dry butt
cough betraying tender lungs

Exploring

Anything that smoked
that could be had and hidden
any paper any leaves

Brands

They passed out for free
in the halls by classroom doors
young men to be hooked

Tried

All manner and form
to make the habit ugly
nothing ever worked

Uncle Sam's

So cheap you had to
the Base price for a carton
now won't buy a pack

More

From grad school pressure
that bumped the rate to forty
couldn't put 'em down

Struggling

Was tolerated
though I knew she hated it
when I sneaked one here or there

Finally

Put it off all day
then made it through the weekend
soon it was a week

And Now

Can't stand the blue cloud
drifting from the leafy sticks
guess I'm finally cured

I like this very much, Krawdad! *S* It amazes me to remember how very few years ago a walk down the street meant encountering multiple "giveaways"... I wonder how many millions got hooked for "free?"
