(Hearing the news today of our wonderful legend of love, Mister Rogers, truly broke my heart today, as I grew up watching his show almost every single day and still do with my little sister, as I truly believe he is one of the most loving people in TV history, and more importantly, a role model to everyone, and I only pray we continue to go on and enrich our children with his words of wisdom and love! So I beg you all, love your children with all your heart and may we all treat each other like friendly neighbors, and most importantly, reach out to each child with love and understand their special needs and qualities! God Bless You All! )

Just Your Friendly Neighbor Here
By: Noah Eaton
2/27/03

Stepping out on the front porch in his suit jacket
Wraps his striped cardigan sweater and straightens his collar
Kicks off his 10 ½ Florsheims slip-ons
To slip on those navy boat shoes which he treats like a father

Won’t you be my neighbor?
We can still catch that trolley to the Neighborhood of Make Believe
It’s such a good feeling to know you’re still alive
Deep down I believe this
I was once just little like you
Now it’s my time to carry on your message
There’s those singing ways to say how you make me feel inside
I’m only still myself inside and that leaves me breathless…

If I come knocking at your door
Know there’s a friend special for you
Even after all we’ve been through
Every day is just the day to spread a little love
If I come knocking at your door
Know it’s only because we could all use more
In your neighborhood there’s always more than enough in store
Every day is just the day to spread a little love

In every child’s inevitable frustrations and woes
Loss of loved ones and trying to find the love they deserve
When self-esteem just needs to be released
Just need to be cared for, just need their arbiters

We can drive the trolley all around town
Remember what your grandfather always told you
That he likes you just the way you are
And we are proud of you too…

If I come knocking at your door
Know there’s a friend special for you
Even after all we’ve been through
Every day is just the day to spread a little love
If I come knocking at your door
Know it’s only because we could all use more
In your neighborhood there’s always more than enough in store
Every day is just the day to spread a little love

I’ll be your ordained minister
Where X the Owl will always be in my tree
Singing with King Friday and Prince Tuesday
Spoon people, Daniel Striped Tiger
And a special delivery from Mr. McFeely
You’ll always arrange the table for Lady Elaine Fairchild
Where Chef Brockett will prepare his cuisine
Where Dr. Duckbill Platypus has the remedy
Where Henrietta Pussycat still picks flowers
And you get that smile from Handyman Negri

So won’t you be my neighbor?
We can still catch that trolley to the Neighborhood of Make Believe
Behind these white walls and blue shutters
I’m still myself, you are too as you can see
I was once just little like you
Now it’s my time to carry on your message…

If I come knocking at your door
Know there’s a friend special for you
Even after all we’ve been through
Every day is just the day to spread a little love
If I come knocking at your door
Know it’s only because we could all use more
In your neighborhood there’s always more than enough in store
Every day is just the day to spread a little love

So if I come knocking at your door
As you’re playing that piano
Know it’s just your friendly neighbor here
Wishing you a beautiful day!

"There is a universal truth I have found in my work. Everybody longs to be loved. And the greatest thing we can do is let somebody know that they are loved and capable of loving."

Noah, if I'd gotten to choose one person to write Fred Rogers' poem, it would have been you.

Excellent work, my friend. Just excellent.

Awwwww Noah, this is so sweet and touching. I still can't believe that he is gone. He did so much for children. Lovely. Chris

Mr. Rogers was around even when I was a kid. I was saddened to hear of his death. Your poem is a lovely tribute to a kind and gentle man.

Thank you!

Dear Noah,
He came knocking at my door
He fed me wisdom
He raised my children
He offered love
He made my little ones feel special
He made me feel special
And now, through your poem, Noah, we
remember how very special HE was
And how very special YOU are
Thank you, dear, for this wonderful
tribute
A warm embrace
Liz
