Time stands still for no man-
At last I realize...
My life is mostly over,
It comes as a surprise.

It seems like only yesterday,
When I was seventeen,
Eyes wide, anticipating-
A world I'd never seen.

The drifting, and the ranch work,
The desert, and the plains.
Thumbing rides on Interstates,
Riding long, freight trains.

Camping in the jungles,
A mission in St. Paul...
And everyone kept telling me,
"You're riding for a fall!"

By the time that I'd turned thirty
My cynicism won...
I dealt in lies and treachery,
And always had a gun.

Now, that too, is behind me.
What I am, I used to hate...
Would you call it irony?
Or is it merely fate?

this was quite cool. it was almost cliche at times, but somehow it just was painly honest and that is refreshing amongst poems that try so hard.

I love all your stories of the rodeo days and your great rhymes. This is no exception.
Though, I carry a knife with me most places, like you said a gun.. but then, I'm a fifteen year old girl. Maybe it has something to do with the fights placed before us.
Loved this,
Always, Alyssa

It does seem like the years fly...and one day you wake up and your thirty, and one day you wake up and your forty, and so forth...James

I really can relate to this,a question I've had to ask myself as sometimes I seem to be fighting awfully hard to become that which I despise.ENJOYED!!!

Live like it's your last day...
Dance like nobody's watching...
Love like you've never been hurt...
