The Bacon and scrambled
Turned out to be a bit more than
Just a quick meal.

We sat at the kitchen table
Making small talk as we finished
The last of the eggs off of mismatched plates
That had seen hard use but still
Were serviceable.

“Where you heading from here?” she asked.

“No plans to speak of,” I answered
“But was thinking of heading towards Arizona.”

“People there?” she asked
as she rose and began to clear the table.

“No” I answered while I watched her move
from the sink to the table with a grace
that reminded me of a cougar

I got up and carried the last of the dishes
Over to the sink and began to run water
To wash them.

“I’ll get the dishes.” I said
“Why don’t you sit and tell me why we’re here.”

She sat at the table, pulled a facing chair close
And propped her legs up on it.

“You scare me a little.” She said again
“but I wanted you to see this place.”
“I wanted to be here with you and find out why.”

“Why, what?” I asked with a laugh.

“Why you scare me.” She said
“and why you haven’t tried to get me in bed.”

I laughed as I scrubbed the last of the egg off
Of a skillet and stuck it under a stream of hot water
To rinse it.

“Lacey,” I started, “You are a pretty woman.”
“Any fellow would be interested in taking you to bed.”
“Real question for me is, who do you want in your bed?”
“You and I both been to the circus, we know there
are lots of clowns there.”

“I figured you just saw me as one of those clowns.”

I let that just lie there a while and let her think on it
While I dried the plates and stacked them
On the counter.

“You aren’t much of a clown.” She said ,
as she rose and took the stack of plates
opened a cupboard door and put them away.

“Let me show you around.” She said
as she hung the wet dish towel
on the oven door’s handle.

The house was comfortable.
Furniture was solid and looked like
It had been in the house since it was built.

Outside on the porch
She spread her arms wide and said “Mine”
As she turned in a circle
Much like a child does when they are
Spinning just to make clouds
Move faster.

“I own 480 acres of this.”
She began as her eyes lost focus on me
And turned inward to trace the boundary lines
In her mind.

“Bought it with money from my photos.”

I whistled an exclamation
Then said, “ nice place, and I can see why you like it.”

“You interested in staying a while?”
she asked me in a half whisper.

The moon was just coming up over the top
Of the ridge and starting to lighten darker shadow
When I heard the first coyote
Howl in a mournful half yelp
That set the hairs on my arm upright
In surprise.

“Pretty close to the house, aren’t they?”
I asked.

“They’re free here and don’t have to worry
about traps that leave them chewing off a leg
just to escape.”  She said

“Ask me again tomorrow.” I said
“Tonight I am not going anywhere.”

She reached out and took my hand
And led me back inside.

“Yes you are.” She said.
“let me show you my bed.”

Captain, captain, captain...that sounds like it must have been a night to remember! You wrote about it so vividly that I felt like a voyeur---and the third party!

Warm hugs,

(smiles) Oh my gosh, I just love how everything is coming together, maybe that is why her photographs are so special, they capture the unusual and behind it all must have him somehwere within, as though he was always there in her peripheral vision! (big hugggssssss) Yay, this is wonderful, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ron, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

First let me tell you, I read while at work and while reading this my phone rang and I was immediately fuming at the interruption.

Second, Lacey can not have him, he is mine!  (I seriously need to get a life).

As always, you sucked me in and made me a part of the story.

Dear Ron:

This is a letter to inform you of your latest charge.  You have been given orders to write my life.  You must direct the career, love life, and hobbies of my life at your will....

Now, if I could just make that a permanent thing.... *Sigh*

You're awesome Ron!!!
