Seven Dollars And Some Change

He must have known the winds would change once he left
The streets of home would never again look the same
To what was familiar to the hearts of this small town
Left an irresistible cry in his name...

Beyond wealthy he strolled there in a style all his own
With years of good decisions running down his face
His profile can still be seen when the moon sheds just the right light
So, here's to the spirit of that old man who blessed a city with grace...

All saw his very being as a memory never able to put to rest
To the world he represented all that was so good and kind
He was like an angel with transparent wings upon his back
And, every footstep left a hint of the man he was behind...

So rich in Gods promises and sometimes blinding to the eyes
But, never a stranger even if you never crossed his path
That mans faith in the race to touch what he never knew he did
Left a million smiles on a city for a lifetime to last...

My vision of his walk in this lifetime still stands ever so clear
And, nobody knew that aging soul more than I had
His light led the way for many with his obvious heart
But, nothing touches me more then those miles of my dad...

To what's comfortable and well-off was to the eyes who saw him
You were right, he was rich in the most rewarding
ways
That man died with seven dollars and some change in his pocket
But, more then gold are my memories that linger today...

(kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, this one brought a tear to my eye, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Saunni, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Saunni; I don't believe I have had the opportunity to read any of your poetry before.  This was lovely.  I was blessed with a wonderful relationship with my Dad.  He was small of stature, but his life and actions made him a giant of a man.  Thank you for sharing this; it reminded me of him.  Wanda

What an absolutely beautiful tribute to your Dad, Saunni.

All saw his very being as a memory never able to put to rest
To the world he represented all that was so good and kind
He was like an angel with transparent wings upon his back
And, every footstep left a hint of the man he was behind...

It sounds as if you and everyone else who knew him was blessed...and he would have been very proud of you.
