They danced a dance,
one of untrue romance
Where candles were never lit
Nor did their hearts ever flit

They attended this masquerade
in beds they ruefully made
disguised in masks made of stone
Together, but yet alone

Their eyes wouldn’t meet
beneath the icy sheets
The place where feelings were killed,
and only needs were filled

Just two souls with cement skin,
hardened from where they had been,
longing for lovers of the past
and youth that did not last

A courtship of strangers,
of hearts guarded from danger
That was doomed from the start
Each knowing that someday they’d part

And when they did, there wasn’t a trace
No need to see the others face
No rose left on the pillow
No love letter of sweet sorrow

For it was just a lonely dance,
one of untrue romance
A waltz performed by the living dead
on a dance floor which was a cold bed

Ooh, Dave, this is really good. Cold hearts make cold beds. Enjoyed this one very much. Cheryl

Cheryl - Good to see you over here again.  We are like the nomads of poetry websites.  We don't have a home here on the net.

I took today off from work, so I thought I do a little writing.  This is what popped into my mind.  Thanks for reading.

Startime - Unfortunately, this probably happens to often.  That is why I have an electric blanket on my bed.  It keeps my warm no matter how cold the sheets get.   Thanks for reading.

I really liked this one, Dave....
Its too bad and also very sad, but many people actually spend their entire lives together this way......and of course, like you say......apart!
Maybe you should buy them a NY pizza...that might at least warm them up a bit.
Great job!

It is true Lyra.  That is why I sleep on the floor, to avoid that whole cold bed thing.

Hey, a nice piping hot NY pizza can cure most anyone's despair.  Can you imagine a bed made from NY pizza?  Now that is a bed anyone could fall in love in.

No rose???  No wonder it was doomed!!

My perception of truth will somehow never quite be the same..and so I write.

- I could most definitely understand what you were or still are going through. I was intrigued while reading this...all the way through, and felt guilty to be so, because afer all it is your sadness on paper.
