It's Hard To Say Goodbye

I looked down at you
A softness in my eyes.
Remembering when you
Used to be out of this
Prison of a bed.
I kiss your cheek
And stroke your hair.
My lil lovebug
A name you so earned.
You couldn’t smile.
You couldn’t speak
Only watch me with
Your grinning eyes.
I told you I loved you
And I’d see you soon.

When I returned.
I found you not there
You passed on early
In the morning light
Sorrow tugged at my heart
As I remembered your eyes
Staring up with me
Grateful that I took
That moment from my day
To let you know I cared
That someone cared

Sadness for your daughter
Visiting every day
Sadness for me
Not having such a
Sweet smiling soul
Resides in my mind
And although it is
So hard to say good bye
Thankfulness for you
Is inside my heart
Knowing you are happy
Knowing you can walk
Smile, laugh, and talk
In the paradise you now dwell

I will miss your loving heart
But I know all I have to do
Is say a little prayer
And you will smile down
With a soft kiss.

This is for Esther.  She was 95 years old and one of the sweetest women I know.  She was always a lovebug... wanting hugs and kisses, which I, being a lovebug myself, gladly gave.  She passed away early this morning.  I will miss her.. but as I said in the poem.. she is in a better place.

Oh geesh.. I love this. Your poems about these ladies always touch close to my heart. *sigh* I SO miss all of the friends I made at a nursing home 2 hours away from here.

This is beautiful.

very touching, rosepetalled one. She sounds like a wonderful person who had a full life and now has a well-deserved rest. All we can do is be happy we had the chance to know them, which you obviously do. Great writing...

Thank you all for your sweet words and prayers.. but please.. send your prayers to her family.  Her daughter used to come everyday.  They are the ones that need your prayers.

Bill - Thank you. I'm glad you liked it.

startime - That is what I try to remember. I know she is happier where she is.  She always use to talk about her husband and what a wonderful man he was.  I know he was waiting to greet her.  She is much happier now.

PoeticLincese - Thank you.

Jenn - *hugs* to you.  They are great people.  If people would just take the time to listen and learn from them, they would realize that they are more than just growing old.

Balladeer - Thank you.. I'm glad you liked it.  Yes, I'm very thankful I got to know her.  Every now and then there is a resident that touches your heart.  She was a wonderful lady.

Michael - Thank you   It can be hard.. but I am getting better with it. *hugs*

Dave -  *hugssss* to you.  I know she is happy, she is reunited with her love.. looking down offering a gentle touch to all who care for her. Thank you dear for you support and understanding.  Love you

Sven - Thank you for stopping in.  I'm glad you enjoyed
