Before Our Time part 2
By Larry Chadwick

So there those cards sat under my bed,
The box so full I thought it might burst.
Meanwhile, all these thoughts in my head,
For her, I wasn’t able to quench my thirst.

But for once, time was really on my side,
Eventually she would be available to see.
So now my mind was all in a whirl,
Thinking mostly about just her and me.

Don’t get me wrong, it was hard to wait,
Just for that perfect moment in time.
Still I was confident that she could be,
Someone that was willing to be mine.

Making plans to keep me busy awhile,
Something that would occupy my head.
I built a wooden container to replace,
That shoe box that was under my bed.

Little hearts that doubled for handles,
Another heart just for lifting the lid.
I bought some balloons and flowers too,
Now I was for her heart to make a bid.

Finally it was time for a rendezvous,
My heart skipped every other beat.
I hoped I was ready for this fateful day,
An agile mind and quick on my feet.

So there we sat in that public place,
With my emotions hermetically sealed.
It was so exciting I could hardly wait,
I’m quite sure it was her that squealed.

Finally she held the cards in that box,
In sequence she opened them one by one.
Smiles and tears were mingled together,
That long awaited task was finally done.

Sin isn't fair, but God got even, grace isn't fair either.  larry c

Hey there mon ami, I've been listening to some great music tonight, some that made me happy, some sad. And I was reading Elizabeth Barrett Browning this evening, and drooling at the way her words flow so profoundly and gracefully. So, I had reasons to smile, and your poems gave me a few more.

Must have taken her awhile to get through all those cards eh? I'm glad there was a happy ending. I love happy endings.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Tracey,
Actually, it did. But I was willing to wait!

Startime,
It was fate. But I can accept that!
