Afraid Of Love

Concrete under my feet,
you in my head
will obscured by parting words,
things said,
not meant- meant to hurt,
meant to hide deep down pain,
personal space brutalized
by love afraid to love.

Thumb in the air
masking desire,
the need to say- sorry,
forgive me -
with the urge to run,
to go far away,
to meld with the anonimity
of highway faces.

Concrete beneath me
replacing the softness of you,
hot wind – truck rushing by,
could have been your voice – instead.

One foot in front of the other,
thumb in the air,
love afraid to love,
heart that never felt this way,
before –

Concrete under my feet,
you in my head,
running from what I feel,
is real –
from words said -
in fear of love.

Oh yes, love can definitely be scary. Especially when you have had your share of heartaches! Take it one day at a time and your heart will open up.

Yes, when we are afaid to love, we want to run from ourselves...mostly.
Sometimes the wall around our heart can become a highway that leads nowhere.
Still, we need to heal so we keep it there rather as a fence. At least for a time.
Good poem.

I am glad it isn't your plight. Being afraid of love leaves one very lonely. This poem tells it very well. Great Write.

Love that last stanza. Love the whole poem, but that bit really stood out
