We've been comfortable in our freedom
for way too long.
The price of peace pre-paid for us
by men who have long since gone.
Memorial Day we wave the flag.
Before baseball we sing the song.
All the other days we blindly live
as if nothing could go wrong.

So, pray, let this be a wake-up call.
Let's walk united in respect
for those who took the fall.
We're battered, but not broken.
America, stand tall.
Oh, pray, let this be a wake-up call.

How can we look our children
in the eye
without telling them of the ones
who chose to die.
It's not simply for decoration
that we let those colors fly.
Each day as you enjoy your freedoms,
you better tell your children why.

And, pray, let this be a wake-up call.
Let's walk united in respect
for those who took the fall.
We're battered, but not broken.
America, stand tall.
Oh, pray, let this be a wake-up call.

Yes, indeed we have. And we should really do whatever it takes every single day to not have future generations keep re-paying this debt over, and over again.
Thanks for the call.

But, of course, something did go wrong.  And I will never hear our national anthem with the same disregard, again.  Just one of the little things that I no longer take for granted.  Excellant write.

Yes ... and we'd darn well better know why ourselves~
Freedom is not free ... we've paid a high price~

Thank you for sharing~

I guess it is time for us to realise that freedom should never be taken for granted. It will always be something that will need to be defended. Wonderful poem...Very powerful.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Very well stated, Tennessee Angel. If anyone is still sleeping after the wake-up call that we received, there is no waking them up.
