In my usual haste to go about my daily routine
I almost missed witnessing displays of nature
as they happened in my garden before my eyes
So I stopped in my tracks and put aside
my chores as I sat and enjoyed part of
nature's daily show as it unfolded

I sat quietly as I watched the wattle birds
draining every drop of nectar out of the flowers
in my pink flowering gum tree
I watched the blackbirds as they joyously
splashed in the birdbath underneath
the arching leaves of the tree fern

All too soon alarmed by a sudden noise
they took to the skies in a flutter of wings
that sent droplets of water through the air
on their departure
Suddenly all was quiet again until
I heard the noisy chatter of the
rainbow lorikeets as they
gorged themselves amongst
my apple tree

I closed my eyes and inhaled the clean
crisp air as my senses became heightened
by the sweet intoxicating smell of my
jasmine creeper on the back fence
How deeply I inhaled to absorb
this sweetly seductive scent

Eyes now wide open I gazed across
the garden beds and witnessed all the
colors of the rainbow amongst
various shades of green
This garden of mine is like a masterpiece
on nature's canvas
No picture could do justice as
such beauty should only be viewed
through the naked eye

My chores will always be there tomorrow
but I may not see such an awesome
display of nature again
So I will choose to live for the moment
In this place of peace and serenity
