I looked at the tree and felt quite bold,
after all, I was close to ten years old.
I studied the limbs that were so high,
it looked as if they brushed the sky.
I gathered scraps of wood and a sack of nails,
then found some pieces to serve as rails.

Heck, if that Swiss Family bunch could do this thing,
there was no reason I couldn’t do the same.
First of all I made my steps and nailed them deep,
of course I hit my thumb a bunch until I weeped.
Oh my gosh, I climbed so high,
until finally I sat on the limb I spied.

About that time I had a thought,
maybe my mum would be very wroth.
Surely she wouldn’t mind me being up in that tree,
geez, I only wanted a tree house for me.
Someplace you could go and really hide,
when you needed a good place to cry.

A place I could keep my comic books,
and the pack of smokes, I ahh, well, took.
About that time, I looked on the ground,
and saw my dog looking around.
With a sigh, I knew, my dreams were lost,
for I couldn’t leave that dog at any cost.

Logan this was great fun to read. I can see you nailing up those pieces of wood right now. And of course you couldn't leave the dog behind. (now if he had been a cat, he could have joined you   )

This gave me smiles.     Fortunately, I had cats, so as soon as my hammering stopped, my pals joined me. But I think my treehouse predated my reading The Swiss Family Robinson - I'm almost sure I was in the tree reading it!   This is wonderful!

Hiya!   Thanks for the giggles and smiles while reading this. It often makes my day to read your work. I haven't been around on messenger programs, and won't for a few weeks. Limited on line access at this time.   Anyways..geesh!   You always tell a delightful tale, Sweet One.

This is really cute! I was a bit of a tomboy and climbed my share of trees, so I remember well the fun.

Through this poem, I can still smell the fresh sap on my hands...  Nothing quite like the view from your first tree-house...  Thanks for the nostalgia, Logan.

Logan-
Boy does this bring back memories...
I'm with Deb...I was a tomboy too, and
you couldn't keep me out of trees...or
anything that could be climbed for that matter.LOL
My brother and I also had a treehouse that
our dad built for us in the backyard...we
   had soooo much fun there!
   Thanks for the memories..

   hugs,
   ~vicky

Hi Logan--You tell this story in such a sweet, natural way..I enjoyed reading it very much...I loved trees as well...I had a plum tree that was a horse, but never had a tree house...sigh.

Who said growing up isn't filled with "tuff" decisions.  I truely enjoyed this read and it definitely brought back some moments of my childhood.  Wonderfully penned and a delight to read.
