Two balloons broke free today
from the dealership across the street,
tied together sailing away
while my thoughts drifted bittersweet.

Lighter than air, red and blue
as though feathered they took flight,
please be aware I dreamed of you
wishing us tethered in passions height.

how did this journey start?
was it planned or happenstance?
when would our Love depart
and its promise of romance?

Guided by a carefree wind
would we lift as if heaven sent?
soft and smooth, skin to skin
to the highest highs assent.

Would we both sustain the air
we would need to aspire in trust?
could we keep aloft the care
and maintain our desire and lust?

For if just one would spring a leak
and in apathy drain down,
strength of Love would then grow weak
eventually dying aground.

I stood there watching, wanting you
as the pair rose out of sight,
upward onward to the heights,
then I smiled in knowing delight.

your inspiration took you on quite a flight...as an oldster, I will say that the trust and caring are the most important pieces of love you mention, though you didn't ask for that, I felt compelled. hope I'm forgiven.

twould be lovely if all of love was lofty and ever rising

The metaphor is superb! I could visualize a pair of lovers afloat on their love in mid-air. An airy write that kept my attention until the very end.   I tottaly got into it. Applause   Love and peace ((~.~))

A fresh analogy, Richard, and a clever employ.  For some reason, I've got Nena's song, "99 Luftballons" playing through my head right now...
