In an upside-down garden

Before anyone says anything, just know this:  this poem isn't about me or my life.  It's about anyone who's ever been abused by their lover.  I watched way too much Montell this morning. If it's against the guidelines, I'm sorry, I didn't know.

It's not right to be afraid to go home at night.
It's not right to have to hide.
It's not right to be alone when he's gone.
I should've known it'd go this far.

I should've known the first time he hit me.
I should've known he didn't care.
I shouldn't've taken this for granted.
I should've gotten out when he wasn't there.

It's not right for him to be so angry.
What did I do to make him so mad?
It's not right for him to hate me.
He just keeps punching and saying I'm bad.

I should've known it would go this far.
I should've known he wasn't the one.
I should've gotten out when I had the chance.
I should've left before it ever begun.

I should've known.

Awesome piece.  Its very truthful.  It doesnt matter where you get your inspiration, just how it turns out.  Seems yours came out pretty well, even though its not a very positive subject, but we cant overlook the fact that it happens everyday.  Keep up the good work.  Hope to read more.

This is soo true...I've watched relationships like this before...some of my really good friends. We all tried to tell her, but she wouldn't listen. *sigh* Maybe this will open some eyes. THis was a great poem.

You did a good thing posting this.  This will effect someone, and make them think, whether they reply or not.
I enjoyed this.  It's very sad... It's a shame there is such a thing as abuse.  Unfortunately, it's very real, and something needs to be done about it.
Thanks for sharing this.  You wrote it very well.

Marie is right, Allysa. Someone will be effected by this and have one hell of a wake-up call. Anyway- I liked this alot.  Such a sad topic...it happens far too much. You did well- even if Montell was your source of inspiration. HaHa.

Awesome poem ALlysa! I really liked this one. Such power within it! Great job.

Thanks everyone.  I didn't want you all to flip out and think that I was being abused by any guys or anything.  Justin and I pretend to beat each other up but he's only missed target once and hit me in my lip.  And Mr. Unhuggable stepped back and was like OH MY GOD ARE YOU OKAY?  I didn't hurt you did I?  I am soooo sorry! and he gave me a hug.  It's just that it does happen and people try to ignore it sometimes, ya know?  Anyways, Justin called me the next day and the first thing he said was "how's your lip?"
