Painting by Michael Auguste

Wings of Cherished Hope

by Michael

Afraid to soar, so settled we
In these tired lives that do not grow
In fear we might upset the norm
Unsure just where our lives may go

We love to dream but do not act
Upon a future that's not clear
How dull to never chase a dream
Cannot we even spare a year?

If you should fail, it can be said
You chanced to dream like men of old
And set your sails on unknown shores
Bow cutting waters dark and cold

Stagnation, ugly, should not win
When books you never sought to read
Since childhood tv's been your friend
I want in you to plant a seed

Like Jack, I hope that you will climb
And touch the stars before too late
To learn of things that you knew not
There isn't time for you to wait

Please seek these dreams before they're gone
And soar on wings of cherished hope
Then write the words for your life's song
With obstacles, I know you'll cope

For sunsets border on the mind
And new horizons still to see
Though unexplored these waters are
It's up to us that they will be

So raise your sails and hurry on
The day is waning, sun's near set
And dress yourself in warm attire
This journey's cold and often wet

And when you reach the stars you seek
Like firefly glitter in the night
Just onward push and do not rest
Until at last your dreams see light

I do not see the scene except through your words....

and they alone painted the picture....

Bravo!

Lady In White,

Thank you.  I'm glad you liked this one.  It's weird...I put a painting of mine along with this poem and it showed up perfectly.  Then when I clicked on the poem again, there was no image.  Hmmm...must talk with the image experts like Mysteria.    Thanks again.

yes, I agree...time together ..act on it...find that dream and hold onto it...make it real

I enjoyed this read, dreams....we should always dare to dream.

Hi my buddy, your poem was awesome, now as to the graphic...well, you see the guys at Geocities, are pretty smart, and they have put a protection on their bandwidth, so you can not link to their servers.  You can copy from there and it looks fine, and only minutes later, it vanishes.  My only suggestion is to give it someone who has a homepage out of Geocities (Tripod), to temporarily store for you, and transfer in from there. I never use any graphics from Geocities (Tripod), as the simply disappear, sorry as I know it was the ship right?  Darn it all anyway!  Well...here is the link to your home page so they can see it as it is worth the trip: http://members.tripod.com/~augustfire/index.html

Hi. This was a wonderful poem. I especially like

If you should fail, it can be said
You chanced to dream like men of old
And set your sails on unknown shores
Bow cutting waters dark and cold

What a true to life and prolific thought.

Until you are are near it, you will never see it, until you live it you will never know it...this is why we must not judge it.

Helen,
I love your replies.  They always give me a smile.  Thank you.

Wynter,
Yes, make it real.  Think of all the many years our lives contain.  What do we do with them?  So many of us sit in front of the television and live other people's lives.  Such a shame.  Thank you.

Kathleen,
Thank you for reading and the nice words.

Sven,
I guess I'll have to find a better way to display a picture next time.  Oh well...  Thank you for reading and liking this piece.

Elizabeth Anne,
Thank you, my friend

Martie,
I have to admit, it bugs me that my painting didn't show up, but that's the breaks. :-)  Thank you

Lauren,
There are always new horizons, my friend.  We've only to believe that they exist.  Thank you.

Sharon,
The painting is at Tripod and they don't allow a remote server.  I'll have to try elsewhere next time.  Thank you for your help and for the "awesome"  :-)

angelbear,
Welcome to Passions.  You are going to like it here, I assure you.  I'll be looking for your poetry and I thank you for reading mine.

Thank you, everyone!

Michael
