Raise Up the Flag

Raise up the flag and watch her fly
Remember all the reasons why
The peace, the freedom, right to hear
The spoken truth without the fear

Remember why they sailed away
To find a safer place to stay
To seek a harbor for the mind
From tyranny they left behind

Hoist up the red, the white, the blue
It is a soldier’s gift to you
He fought with pride to later die
So that the flag would ever fly

Those who heard the battle call
Would never let Old Glory fall
She is the heart, the soul, the pride
Of those who lived and those who died

For all who’ve suffered  from unrest
Then found this place that God has blessed
Look up with all respect that’s due
The white of stars on field of blue

Raise up the flag into the sky
Remember all the reasons why

Written like a true patriot!
Very well done.
I wonder if Flag Day has an official poem...if not this should be  it.

There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar.

Dear Elizabeth:  I seldom come here as I am posting to Spiritual Journeys and Corner Pub, but I'm so glad I did today, as I love this poem.  It is stirring and wonderful.  I agree, it would be a wonderful poem to be published nationally, for flag day!

Well I am not sure what Flag Day is, but I know there beats a heart of a true American in this poem.  And I agree if there is a Flag Day, then this is definitely the poem for it!  Wonderfully patriotic and so well done.

And we need to remember to bring this up again on Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, and the 4th of July...

Well done, Lady Santos....

My husband will absolutely love this, he's a military man (retired) and will salute it for sure!   Wonderful read.
