If I close my eyes
I still can see
your face so clear,
though it makes it hard
to breathe.
And I can hear your laughter
in my brain.
Sometimes I laugh along
just to keep myself sane.
Often, late at night,
I say your name
and listen as it echoes
down the hall.
I repeat it until
I'm sure I won't forget.
I have to ensure
that I will always recall
the sound of your name,
the light in your eyes,
and the way somebody stole
my right to good-bye.
I try to imagine you
as you drove alone,
probably singing along
with the radio.
Twenty years of age,
happy and free.
In the blink of an eye
someone stole your love
from me.
Sooner than I planned
I had to let you go
because of someone
too drunk to even know.
If I could see them now
I'd like to say...
"The one you killed
would be twenty-five today."

Hard thing to write about, but it helps to keep the memories alive.  Never been down that road and I hope I never shall.  Peace to you and yours.

Oh Angel, this one hits me where it counts tonight.  In high school I had a friend who was also killed by a drunk driver.  A very bright and talented life was cut way too short by his lack of judgement.  I am so sorry you had to go through this also.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.
