The wild blackberry villain
Fell in love with my sweet rose.
I found them in the garden,
All entangled in love's throes.

I took the hoe and hit him,
With all of the strength I had.
How could my hybrid beauty
Be seduced by such a cad?

I only meant to whack him.
The bright sun got in my eyes.
My darling little blossom
Met an early sad demise.

Now my rose lies motionless,
Betrayed by her wanton way.
Deserted by her lover
Who led her so far astray.

I know that coward's hiding
Underneath the sheltering ground.
Hiding, plotting, and planning,
Another lovely to take down.

Dear one, turn away this rake.
Don't believe his wicked boast.
He'll take you to his level
And then thrive on your compost.

It is true we can be known
By the company  we keep.
Hobnobbing with a scoundrel,
Brings a price that's mighty steep.

That blackberry is turning me on!   Yes, we really should watch who we get tangled up with!   I loved this one!!!

I love to garden and I love the way you used the nasty little blackberry- invasive suckers
I smiled and also I thought, I consider this very imaginative writing. well done. J

This is so clever and cute ...
wonderful word and image play here as well as cadence.
The personafication was poetically employed to perfection.
very well done and enjoyed Joyce

Thanks everyone for noticing my little poem in this plethora of good poetry.  I felt sorry for my blackberry and I wrote a poem from his point of view, which I will post another time.  Joyce

What a fantastic analogy!  Please tell me you didn't lose your rose in the whack!  It sounded like it, and then it didn't.  I even heard the crack of the whack, but I'm not quite sure what I saw.
