Craven tears stream from the memory
Staining sallow skin with shame
Sands of love spill through my fingers
I only have myself to blame

I thought I could exist without you
Leave before you claimed my heart
Shredded pride betrayed by folly
The lesser hurt – to be apart

Haunting, silent in my dreams
Tortured whispers traipse around me
Mocking mire of agony

Self inflicted wounds re-open

Taloned words still leave their markings
Mind me of my chosen place

In bitterness, I despise my weakness
In loneliness, I pray for your return
In emptiness, I chastise the memory
Of cherished thoughts that make me burn

I know I’ve lost your fragile heart

Just add me to your book of sorrows
A mistake of passion borne

But, also, know that still I need you
Know that shame has sealed my mouth

I have found this myself Sheila...sometimes it takes a while for us to appreciate someone or perhaps losing them brings the feelings to the surface....James
