Un-shackled from the world of care I lay
the bonds of day's disturbance now to rest
I've had enough of torment for one day
Morpheus grant surcease at my behest
for you will guard me safe 'till morrow's quest
shall once again commence abrupt attack
fall forward now to sleep do not look back

Your shield will keep the dogs of war at bay
but nay , for it may even stay their howls
I yield to you my friend for this I've prayed
to rest and heal on ground they've not yet fouled
Take this my spirit forth lest it be cowled
to soar but for this time o'er fields of dreams
a warrior by day though I may seem

This night I'm but a child in your embrace
my weapons are but toys with which I'll play
tommorrow not quite yet this state of grace
enveloping my soul is where I'll stay
'till duty calls again when I'll away
to fight for fame and fortune in the world .
Stay long , and keep me in your arms enfurled .

This is an interesting piece. It strikes me as a bedtime invocation.

Thanks for sharing.

ATelemon ,
Exactly ( an invocation ) .Wasn't too happy with the title , but fairly satisfied with my first attempt at this format ( rhyme royal). Thanks for the input . Welcome to Passions .

I need a new shield... the nightmares keep slipping in. Maybe Morpheus went to sleep on the job? *G* This is great!

Ah...so THAT'S what it's like!!!!

Ever envious of your poetic finesse, doc...and now serenity also suffers from sleep-envy! Thanks for this one!

It is not often, on an ordinary day, that one finds a poem as original and thoughtfully composed as this one of yours. Thank you, Doc.

Clair ,
You are much too kind .I'm working on things though , and someday I will write something that will steal the breath away . I honestly believe that it is possible to combine words in such a way that the heart will pause , and the world will cease , just for an instant . This is my grail , and if it is never reached , I will still have my success .
