Silly Valentine’s Day
Virginia Salter

Red is the color of my true love’s eyes
Green is the color of inebriated sighs
Spinning is the world and rocky, too,
I’m so ignited, don’t know what to do.

Valentine’s is coming and our love’s half dead;
I surely can’t remember what it was I said.
Did I promise ‘to give honor and to obey’
did it mean from now until my dying day?

Rocky Road and Almond Roca are both mighty fine,
but should I’ve ever listened to that same sweet line?
Teddy bears and candy grams are awfully sweet,
yet how was it simple things swept me off my feet?

Should I ignore the back side of those boots
that led into the darkness when he went on a toot.
Should I have turned my cheek when he came back home
promises and lies as he fetched his comb.

Maybe get some old lace and sweeten it
with some concoction or confection that’s extremely fit.
Fit for someone who’s happy, simply filled with glee,
‘Slong as someone special sits upon his knee.

D’ you have a slight suggestion that would be real fine
something quite perfect so I won’t do time?
Well, never mind, I shouldn’t have asked,
wouldn’t want to drag you in to a gruesome task.

Thanks all, glad you liked.

Yet, other than dreamkeeper's *grins*, I'm not totally sure it's seen as humor, primarily, to others.  this is really what I want it to be.  The reference to old lace...you know, arsenic and old lace...{that should be capitalized,} right, as it's a movie.  One I enjoyed muchly. I am hoping the reader catches that and it aids in the humor of this piece.
