It's just another morning.

I stand at the stove
scrambling your eggs.
The toast pops up
and I rush to butter it
so that it melts
just the way you like it.

I pour your coffee
into your favorite mug.
Add two spoons of sugar
and just a dribble of cream.
I put your food on the plate.
Three eggs, hashbrowns
and four slices of bacon.

I walk to the kitchen table
where you're reading your morning paper.
As I set your breakfast down
the coffee sloshes in the cup
and spills just a few drops on the table.
You make a joke about the service
and I playfully snap my towel at you
and we both laugh.

Then as the clock strikes eight
you grab your coat from the back of the chair.
You take one last sip of your coffee,
ask me if your tie is straight
and you quickly kiss me good-bye
not knowing that you just made
the whole morning worthwhile.

It's just another morning.

But years from now on a front porch swing
while sipping lemonade in the sun.
Maybe you're still by my side
or maybe you've passed on.
I'll close my eyes and remember this day
like a snapshot in my mind.

And with a smile I'll recall
the times I scrambled you eggs,
spilled your coffee,
snapped you with my towel,
and kissed you good-bye.

What a tender description of a precious 'snapshot'!  Along with your portrayal shines your wisdom in recognizing its value - and yes, you will look fondly back, one day..... I know.

Sven -- They truly are!  I think it's just as important to relish the memories while we're making them as it is to remember them later.  Thank you for always having a kind response..you're an awesome guy!

Lary -- Thank you for such a heartfelt response.  Sometimes what seem to be the most ordinary moments are the ones you wish you could have back.

James --  I always love to get a reply from you!  I am so glad I made you smile and laugh as that was my intention.  Thanks so much!!

This was so grea, after reading the beginning and then the verses below.
Just makes one wonder, why sometimes for some it never last.
Cause memories held on to like this, will always get you threw.

Great

V - Sorry girl, didn't mean to make you hungry..Glad you enjoyed the piece.

Bernie --  Thank you for such a lovely response..I don't know why it doesn't always last..If I had the answer to that puzzle I would be one rich lady indeed..A lot of times though I think people hold on to the wrong memories..Or they fail to see the extraordinary in the ordinary..or as my dad would say, too many champagne wishes and caviar dreams.  Thanks again for replying and I look forward to seeing a lot more posts from you.
