Listening to every heart

Transistor Transitions

Waller Park is still the setting
for those memories of yesterday
Santa Barbara County pines
still hold me in their sway

to be alone and to be free
there I'd go to make memories
ah…memories of me on the go
with my transistor radio

dreamer dreaming in daylight blue
where did the words come from
that he could sing so tenderly
as if he were singing just to me

and I felt the passages pass on through
the shifting of sands in my mind
wondering of womanhood
with each transformation of chime

then one day, a boy with guitar
to be a Neil, to be a star
strummed his lonesome melody
and from a distance I watched as he

went through his transitions too
and I listened to words waft new
and abrupt the change, it's when I knew
he'd be on the radio…my transistor radio

God the sky was blue that day…
and the sun, could it ever be brighter?
to watch the transition of his face
as he grew in content and in grace

the batteries in my radio
began to weaken, lost their glow
that young man's voice crossed the air
to me, alone, just standing there

God the sun was bright that day
the blue sky drew me up and in
that young man's voice increased in tone
and the passages began to begin

he would go his way in time
and I would follow many roads
but I'm thankful for memories of pine
and for that transistor radio

Karilea,
God the sky was blue that day
God the sun was bright that day
To me alone just standing there
As his voice crossed the misty air.
You have some wonderful lines, I enjoyed the read.*L*

I didn't read this. I watched it play out before my eyes. Wonderful write. Felt on the spot. Loved it.

My first look at a transistor radio was on a school bus; one of the "well off" kids got one right after they came out in hand-held size. Everyone was amazed!

Enjoyed this and the memories it provoked.

James...thank you! I was always amazed that around midnight I could pick up LA stations from almost 200 miles away...of course, weather conditions prevailed on the signals...and there was many a night that the radio was tucked under my pillow just before I closed my eyes...

glad you Didn't Read....the other way is much more enjoyable...

Memories of youth are great. I enjoyed this. As I enjoy reading all the poems on this site.

I write with the ink of my heart.
