I listened as she whispered
her silent plea,
"Dear Lord above,
could you please help me?"

I could hear the growing
desperation in her voice,
she felt so alone,
like she had been left no choice.

In her eyes I could see the torment
and so much pain,
her tears began to flow down,
like the pouring of the rain.

In her soul there was a struggle,
residing deep within,
once, just once, she wished
that she could somehow win.

She sat in total silence,
as her eyes searched into mine,
I offered words of comfort,
to help ease her weary mind.

After a brief pause
she slowly began to speak,
and with her next words,
I could feel my heart grow weak.

I couldn't stop my tears,
yes I began to cry;
as she said these words,
"I hope that God let's me
know love,
just once before I die."

You reminded me that there is much I take for granted at times....thought provoking piece here, Gentle Spirit...funny, but you reminded me of something that happened to me.
Y'see I met this dwarf at an outdoor show. (long story) and I was sitting with her, on a blanket, watching this very loving couple, just the way they touched, and looked at each other made me cry, because I thought "I'll NEVER have that..." (even longer story)  but then a guy walked by, and said hello to me and winked, and I didn't think much of it, just said "hi"---but my little friend asked me, "How does it feel to have a guy flirt with you?"  Needless to say, I was ashamed of my self pity after that.  But anyway...thanks for the poem, it brought all that back...grin...for what it's worth.

Thank you both so much.  Yes, sometimes it seems we can take things for granted, so true it is.  ~nodding and agreeing~-

I think all to often we take things for granted, we take instead of give. If only we would extend a hand instead of snapping it off, we would all be a little less selfish.
I do like this poem, it's got such a pure message, and it's written beautifully.
Take care
