Verse 1:
Elder land once an Eden
Many days since the dawn of all we know

An open scroll,write for readin'
all the words of what the prophets all foretold

Chorus 1:
And so we go...

End of the days where battles fought will justify...
      any action,any blame
Heading for the End of the Unknown
      in the Desert of Allah

Verse 2:
Tan and grey on horizon
in the fray...and the violence only grows

On and on sweeping silence...all the way
in the name of saving Freedom

Chorus 2:
So it goes...

and all is finished in due time
far below...any knowledge of the same
Ever to the end that we bestow
      on the Desert of Allah

Verse 3:
Tyrant raves on the Tigris
End of Power...by the Storm that is at hand

On and hour after hour
   It's the hour...
to liberate a land that cannot stand the reign...

Chorus 3:
Why do the innocent and children have to die?
it's the payment of the game
What is more to know than blood will flow
   on the Desert of Allah?

Now...all is finished in due time
Please tell me how...I'd have given everything
to keep away the End of the Unknown
   in the Desert of Allah

Back in March,I was working on a chord structure for a song, with it having somewhat of a very seductive bass line and rhythm.I began arranging it while avidly watching CNN and it started growing, being very synthesized with a driving beat and somewhat of a Mid-east sound to it.Apparently,I was very affected by the war on Iraq, and as I would continually listen to the playback,it seemed to be "going with" the scenes I was watching as the war unfolded.I felt bravery,
the sadness, the plight...all recorded on my keyboard.I knew that I needed a lyric for this, but did not know where to begin. The war,
for the most part, ended soon thereafter, but I still wanted to work on this and present it on my first album.Today (finally!),I took the time and sat by the Susquahana River and finished this.I hope you like it.

Yes I do like it.  I would like to hear you play it.  Good luck with your poetry, you seem to be doing some serious composing.  Joyce

Dear Geoffrey This is incredibly beautiful. My son, John is a 2nd LT in Baghdad. So this song especially touched my heart. I am so proud of him. Thank you for your e-mail and your kind words. I hope you recieved my reply. I wish I could hear this wonderful song. Where are you in PA? Hugs, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
