I Write For

I do not write for fame and fortune,
I write for kith and kin.
I write for joy of living
so perhaps I'll never win
acclaim from scholars or those
who are in charge of laurels,
but poetry of mine will never
compromise your morals.
I write of God and country,
of Mom and applepie,
and I'd like to write a brilliant truth,
sometime before I die.

Joyce 5/6/03

I love this, and yeah I think there's plenty of us here who would like to write a truth before our time is up!!
Thanks for a good read!

yes Joyce,

this is a lovely poem that is so true of many of us but i do believe that we should write of these things because we are rewarded with so much joy and satisfaction.
who needs prizes anyway ? lol.

Joyce I absolutely loved this. And in my opinion, you win the hearts of all who read your words. And that's the biggest prize of all.

I learned something today. 'kith and kin'

An expression I had never heard or even seen before! Must not be an old Yankee saying!! Or if it is, not something said in my family. Either way, it's a great expression.

Hi: Kith is friends, and of couse kin is your  kinfolks or relatives.  I did not know it was not a universal expression.  Love, Joyce
