Pebbles in the Stream

When walking by the stream I see
Small pools where pebbles gleam at me.
Their pretty colors catch my eye.
I take a few and let them dry.
But then I find they look so plain,
I put them in the pool again,
Where they show up their very best,
Against the sandy bottom pressed.

Some people too, when out of place,
Start marching at a different pace.
Are not in step, do not perform.
Seem to behave outside the norm
And so I guess, we're meant to find
Our special niche, with our own kind.

It's like a puzzle in a way.
Each one a piece of some array,
Where we are meant to fill a need,
By word or act, by thought or deed.
Like pebbles in a stream are we.
Such unity might be a key
To great success in all we do,
For you need me and I need you!

Oh Betty, I'm so glad I'm back and in time to read your lovely poem.  Of course it will get my vote.  (I paid a technician his hefty price to come out and tell me that it was the fault of the telephone .  It had a hum that was cutting off my ring.  They came out today and I'm back in business.  Love, Joyce

Bob:  Thanks so much for voting for this and I also read your lovely and perseptive remarks on the book site, after it was closed for replies.  I guess I really goofed in posting it on the Reflections site after posting it on Corner.  I have to admit I was somewhat confused by the instructions and thought it needed to be on the book site too.  I do appreciate your remarks and your vote.

What a beautiful and thoughtful write from a unique perspective. This is definitely in my "Favorites" category. This is so eloquently about something not "overkilled" and then in addition stirs one to thought.
Really, really nice.A "Thumbs up" from me.
