Scent of the Season

In the quiet of the morning,
Before people start to rise
And my world is full of silence,
Underneath the pre-dawn skies,
I can hear the faintest murmur
Where the summer creek proceeds
With it's scanty flow of water,
Through the rushes and the reeds.

Quite hidden in the shadows
Of a tall, old willow tree,
An owl is calling softly.
Do you think he's watching me
Where I sit upon a rocker
On the porch outside my door,
Just to be a part of nature,
Until daylight comes once more.

It's a time of sweet transition,
As night creatures creep away,
To hide in nests and burrows,
Where they'll sojourn through the day.
The air is cool and fragrant
From the scent of season's blooms,
As they're giving way to autumn
And a changing of perfumes.

This is just beautiful Betty.  I have had sinus trouble for so long that I have lost my sense of smell but I remember the sharp scent of smoke when all the leaves were burned in the fall.  Joyce

Joyce:  Thanks for commenting.  Sorry about the sinus problems you are having.  I know it's miserable.  I love the fall and the many scents on the air.
