I used to think how nice 'twould be
To have a little time for me.
For husband, children, job on call,
No time to know myself at all.
Lone time then was a rare pleasure
Doled to me as if a treasure.

But with the years my role has changed,
My life has all been rearranged.
No center of the universe
For one with whom I can converse.
I live in single blessedness;
Exemption one from IRS.

Retired I am from daily drudge,
From easy chair I need not budge.
I answer to no one but me,
Converse in a soliloquy.
My cat my only company
And she'll not deign to speak to me.

I'd gladly give my time alone
For the full life that I have known.

Joyce:  I'm glad you have enough "alone time" to write your beautiful and insightful poetry!

For the first time in my life, I am in the same situation as you describe. My cat is my only companion...and today I called her by my previous cat's name..she was quite miffed I could tell. She stalked off in that prideful way she has. Sigh! (I like your poem).

For the full life that I have known.'

While I do enjoy my alone time ...
I would not willingly trade it for the 'full-life' that I know~

ah, Joyce, this is lovely and I have no alone time at all! I've been raising children for 32 years. My oldest is 32 and my youngest is 14, with 4 in between...I am very sure that I will relish every minute of it. That is if I live long enough to get any of it! hugs, Ellie

Ah dear Ellie,  You are to be envied.  I had but three.  My son is gone but I have my two daughters.  And beautiful grands and greats, but I would truly like to be back raising them.  Love, Joyce
