**dedicated to music...
dedicated to Jackson Browne and Van Morrison...
whose music was my first true poetic inspiration.
They are poets first ...

~Turn On The Music~

Turn on the music ... let it carry me away,
God, I love the way it feels ... please let the music play.
Turn it up LOUD ... I want to feel the songs run thru my spine,
I want to feel every note ... make each word become mine.
Turn it up louder ... I want to feel the base surge right thru me,
I want to taste the rhythm ... touch the sweet harmony.
Sitting in front of the speakers ... feel those vibrations run up thru my chest,
crank it up louder at the guitar solo ... that's the part I like best.
Spare me all the lectures ... I've heard them all thru the years,
I'm not turning it down ... those words indeed -- fall on deaf ears.
Music is my religion, like poetry ... my only other saving grace,
let the melody wash over me ... all my cares leave without a trace.
So sing my heart once again Jackson ... your songs take me home,
for so many years now ... for your words ... I'm never alone.
Serenade me Van ... take me with you in to those mystical skies,
with in your magical lyric ... all my hopes and dreams lie.
Sing to me your verses ... your poetry put to song,
sing to me your secrets ...  your words have helped to keep me strong.
My one true constant ... my quiet comfort on those long, lonely, nights,
your words held my heart ... and for a while, made the world seem right.
So turn on the music ... then turn it up loud so I can hear every last word,
no matter how many times I've played it before,
when my "brown eyed poets" sing to me ...
it's still the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

Janet Marie

**************
~LATE FOR THE SKY~
Jackson Browne

Now the words had all been spoken
And somehow the feeling still wasn't right
And still we continued on through the night
Tracing our steps from the beginning
Until they vanished into the air
Trying to understand
How our lives has lead us there

Looking hard into your eyes
There was nobody I'd ever known
Such an empty surprise
To feel so alone

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

Awake again I can't pretend
And I know I'm alone
And close to the end
Of the feeling we've known

How long have I been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I've dreaming I could make it right
If I closed my eyes and tried with all my might
To be the one you need

Awake again I can't pretend
And I know I'm alone
And close to the end
Of the feeling we've known

How long I've been sleeping
How long have I been drifting alone through the night
How long have I been running for that morning flight
Through the whispered promises and the changing light
In the bed where we both lie
Late for the sky

*************

~Into the Mystic~
Van Morrison

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when thst fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic
Come on girl...

*****

 ~THE TIMES YOU'VE COME~

In the time we've known
That we each are a part of one another
We've lost as much as we have won
And as our lives have grown
We have found that it only brings us pain
To hang on to the things that we have done
Still I love the times you've come

When you went away
Taking all that I'd built my false road on
I dropped my life and couldn't find the pieces
Now you come and go
And it's hard but I feel my strength returning
We'll see how far this road reaches
You see a little more each time you come

Now everybody's gonna tell you it's not worth it
Everybody's gotta show you their own pain
You might try to find your way up around it
But the need for love will still remain

Now we're lying here
So safe in the ruins of our pleasures
Laughter marks the place where we have fallen
And our lives are near
So it wouldn't occur to us to wonder
Is this the past or the future that is calling...
Still ... I love the times you've come ...
~Jackson~
*****
~These Are The Days~

These are the days of the endless summer
These are the days, the time is now
There is no past, there's only future
There's only here, there's only now
Oh your smiling face, your gracious presence
The fires of spring are kindling bright
Oh the radiant heart and the song of glory
Crying freedom in the night

These are the days by the sparkling river
His timely grace and our treasured find
This is the love of the one magician
Turned the water into wine

These are days of the endless dancing and the
Long walks on the summer night
These are the days of the true romancing
When I'm holding you oh, so tight

These are the days by the sparkling river
His timely grace and our treasured find
This is the love of the one great magician
Turned water into wine

These are the days now that we must savour
And we must enjoy as we can
These are the days that will last forever
You've got to hold them in your heart.

Wonderful JM!  I think any of us that has gotten lost in a song can relate to this.  You rock on girl and keep writing fabulous poetry!

Ah I can relate to this as well Jan   you see us poets see more to it than just the music, the sound etc we see the words, we listen to them closely and take note as to exactly what they are trying to say, the message that is being portrayed in the song.
This was wonderful to read   thanks for sharing it with us Janny

Ah Janet! You've won my heart over lassie! What a beautiful tribute. Van Morrison is one of my all time favourites and "Into The Mystic" is one of my favourite songs of all time. I absolutely love that Moondance album!
I just love the way you have expressed your emotions in your tribute -"I want to feel the bass surge right throught me...I want to taste the rythum..touch the sweet harmony" I played guitar in a band for several years and I understand completely....Just great mmmm so good...E. Lewis True (ethome)

Totally relate to this one JM!  My one big sadness in moving from the country recently was I had no neighbours for 12 years ... and boy that music played LOUD!  Even had an outdoor speaker on the tree (never grew up I didn't) ... loved this Janet Marie!

Best wishes,
/Kit

YES this is what music is about. Turn that music up I can barely hear it.

Invite yours neighbours over, make them proud,
Pump up the volume, let the maestros play their unique sounds,
Let music blaze, Let it blast, if needed use surround sound....

My heart is pounding, my stomach's inside out
I'm feeling kind-a-shaky, my mind is full of doubt
All I ever think about, is fearing fear itself,
Wish I could unscrew my head and put it on the shelf
Everything is twisted, everything is oh so tight,
Don't know what I'm looking at, the lights are all too bright
My brain's about to crumble, spill out on the floor
Sweep 'em up. Throw 'em away, don't want 'em anymore
Clouds race across the sky, day turns into night,
Still there are the questions, no answers in sight
Everything is twisted, everything is oh so tight,
Starin' out the window, everything is just too bright
Brain's about to crumble, spill out on the floor,
Wish I could unscrew my head, and kick it out the door...
You know I'm feeling kind-a....Strange
You know I'm feeling kind-a....Strange

HEY JANET
AS THE MUSIC TOUCHES YOUR SOUL AND THE LYRICS
SOOTHES YOUR HEART...I KNOW THE VOLUME IS THE KEY TO YOUR FEELINGS. NICE JOB ON YOUR POEM,I CAN RELATE TO IT BECAUSE I AM FOND OF ANYTHING THAT HAS A RHYTHM AND A TUNE TO GO
WITH IT. KEEP YOUR HEAD PARALLEL TO THE SKY AS YOU BROADEN YOUR HORIZON....
