~ Broken Wings - by poetFemmeFatale

Up into the sky she's blown
thunder, west winds strong -
Tossed about as lightning laughs,
off course, there's something wrong...

Her wings outstretched, she tries to land
a cloud of reverie -
Disoriented in the storm,
sharp cliffs she doesn't see...

Slamming hard into their grip
she cries out, crumpled there -
Broken wings now soaking wet,
Dreams tangled in her hair...

Shallow breaths inflicting pain
she cries but no tears fall -
They're camouflaged there in the rain,
she has no one to call.

Night time cold around her
wings of white now stained with red -
The storm now calm, the moon shines down
She fights to clear her head...

Countless days fly by her
as she tries to mend her wings -
She heals there in the sunlight,
recollecting all her dreams.

Determination drives her
there upon the cliff she stands -
Head held high with wings anew,
her dreams clutched in her hands...

The soft wind blows around her
and she feels the tender lift -
She reaches high toward the sky
and flight becomes her gift.

Now see her sail on broken wing
Courageous, perfect form -
Now nothing stops her, hear her sing
She's overcome the storm!

Her hair blows sweet around her
as dreams filter through her eyes -
She soars just like an angel,
lending magic to the skies...

Well, it took me awhile to get back here and thank all of you guys for reading and enjoying this piece.  I have had a few dreams tangled in my hair of late, and it's amazing how we let ourselves be smacked down by the harsh ones around us...all the while, too blind to even see how "hard" they really are.  Thankfully, we fly again, and as long as we steer clear, there is hope for a brighter tomorrow.  Thank you to all of you who have helped me heal and fly...Mostly, thank you Janet and Sea, and Brent and Chad, and of course my brother Robert.  I love you all!  It's because of people like you, I have courage again and love!

Methinks there is a little bit of magic here and just as well, for who can fly without it and on one wing, no less?..
