One Year Anniversary...Goodbye!

She was tanned, brown eyed with red curly hair and her smiles were aplenty,
This is what I remember of her, along time ago, last seen when I was twenty.
This picture, I have burnt in my minds eye, was of a woman whom loved her life complete,
Nothing surprised nor shocked her, many words come to my mind but not the word "defeat".
We said goodbye, parted our own ways,
She traveled to India, Africa, she was set free,
I stayed here in Canada, raised her grandchildren, waiting for my beautiful mother to come back to me.
Was I upset that we spent over ten years apart, my becoming a mother whilst my mother was away,
She lived her life as a free-spirit, her soul wondered and I envied her every day.
Oh! the anger, the bitterness and the betrayel when she finally came home, my heart tore in two,
She was no longer the mother I wanted to remember, she was gone, left was a shell, but of who?
She came home pale skinned, dull eyes and not one curl of hair, not even a linger of a smile,
The free spirit, Oh!, the soul that once shone so brightly had withered all the while.
Why did YOU have to smoke? Did YOU even entertain the thought of going to the doctor there?
You should of never left me, you should of stayed here, this wasn't fair...
Now it's been a year since the Cancer stole you away, I know now that your life was complete,
For you lived your life with no regrets, no guilt, as you wanted and even in death, you never admitted "defeat".

I LOVE YOU MOM...GOODBYE!

Life is to short to waste-so live it like it will last forever!

Oh Gosh, I have tears in my eyes. This was a lovely tribute to your Mother, and also expresses the anger that you feel that this happened to her. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my Grandfather to cancer, and it is cruel and unfair. Happily your mother was a free spirit and had a full life while she was here.
Peace to you.

Once there was a darkness
Deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had
Ahhhhhh you gave me light
