Off in the horizon, I spy a rainbow
What lies beyond, I do not know
Perchance a pot filled with gold
Like the children's story foretold

Off I wander, in search of wealth
At the expense of my good health
Trudging forth through wind and rain
I endure all forms of pain

The rainbow's end remains reclusive
Maybe it is nothing more than illusive
The closer I seem, the farther I am
This whole quest is becoming a sham

Dreams of wealth and happiness
Now cause me nothing but distress
In the pursuit of things so grand
I dealt myself a losing hand

Excellent! But as I say, if you ever find the end of the rainbow, won't that mean that there will be no sunshine after the rain? We can't have that!

Ok, because no one probably guessed this, I wrote this as a metaphor for a girl at my school who I pursued but never succeeded in winning over.

Wow - this poem is gold in itself, Mistikman.  Deep insight, very profound.  Loved it.

Heh, thanks PdV. Unfortunately, it is impossible to ever reach the end of the rainbow, as it is nothing more than illusion to begin with, as is the pot of gold at the end.

Thanks Michael, I am pretty pleased with the way this one came out

Mistik~
I like this.

Sometimes it isn't the 'pot of gold'
that is the reward ...
the search itself rewards us with
opportunities that unfold and leap
into our pockets as treasures.

Keep searching ... the 'gold' is found
in the little pieces of life along the way.

Marge said exactly what I was thinking! The fun part's the looking... finding usually is disappointing! Enjoy the search!

Marge and Chris- Thanks, but I think both of you slightly misinterpreted my message with this poem. I was attempting to get something that I had no chance of getting, and that I should have seen that to begin with. The searching for it caused me nothing but pain and heartache. In the end, I gained nothing from the foolish quest.
