They gathered round his bed
In the dark February night
Watching their creator
As he lost his final fight

They cried and prayed fervently
Held hands and wished so hard
But death was there waiting
Playing this last trump card

No longer would he teach them
To play, to learn, to share
They wondered what they would do
Now that he would not be there

With the magic he created
He gave laughter, joy and tears
The characters he drew became
Our friends for so many years

But now the pen is stilled
And the drawing laid aside
For on a dark February night
Charles Schultz has died.

In honor of Charles Schulz who died last night, February 12, 2000. He gave us so much love and laughter for so long, he will certainly be missed. The characters he created are American icons...who among us doesnt' see a dog on top of a doghouse when someone says the name 'Snoopy'? We will forever see the dragging blanket, the toy piano, the missed football, the little red-haired girl, the Great Pumpkin and the scrawny Christmas tree...

*bowing my head for a moment of silence in honor of a master of his craft* May his characters always bring a smile to our faces and those of our children. Great tribute to a master Sharon.

May he rest in peace....

Each and every one of us has grown up with those wonderful characters of his...

As Charles Schulz's final Peanuts cartoon graces our nation's newspapers, here's a look at his very first 'Peanuts' comic strip ever printed - nearly fifty years ago....

We'll all miss you, Mr. Schulz...

Poet-
Wonderful tribute you've done.
Snoopy and his friends graced
the bedroom walls of my sons for
many years of their youth.
Charles Shultz was a master at his craft.
His artistry will be missed by many.

Thanks for such a tribute to a such an inspiring man
You have done it so extraordinary
Beautiful and Excellence
A hug for this is surely not enough.

Poet~How touching. I lived near Santa Rosa,Ca. and had been there many times. Once to go ice skating at Snoopy's. I named my parents' dog Peanut because Snoopy didn't fit. His insight on life and the humor we all can relate to, will be missed greatly. Thank you for such a beautiful poem.-SEA

I just want to be with Linus and hold that security blanket now.  Wonderful tribute to a very talented, humble artist.  His death coming at his last publication seemed to say what he'd said.  The strip was him...his fears, triumphs, hopes and dreams.

Excellent remembrance.
Tears across the nation are shed
for the man who gave us so much
through his characters.
He gave them so much life,
that I almost grieve for "their" loss.
Peace be to those Mr. Schulz has left behind.

Thank you deVine. . . I was truly saddened by the death of Mr. Schultz. . . I wear a Linus tie today in his honor. . . his work has always spoken to me. . .

How strange that he, the artist, leaves us his final good-bye before he says good-bye to the world. . .
